Gallery, Coffee House, Theater With Stage, Home

We are retiring and moving into the mountains so we are placing our beautiful gallery and detached home on the market for sale. The gallery is located on Rt. 66 in Grants NM. It is a former church that was built in 1927. We purchased and renovated the church in 1999. It has been inspected by the NM Historic Register and would qualify to be placed on the register if you choose. It is the oldest building on Rt. 66 in our town (which is a good thing) and is across the street from the main city park and Chamber of Commerce.  The renovation included all new plumbing, heating, roof, and electrical. It should require little to no repairs for the next 50 years. It has a 1000 sq. ft. outdoor covered patio with tables and chairs in the back of the main building and a 300 sq. ft. outdoor covered patio in front.  It has a 1000 sq. ft. stand alone residence next to the main building that can be used as your home.  It also has a fully functional greenhouse, tool shed, and workshop.  The main building is 2800 sq. ft. and has a coffee bar, full kitchen, theater with 400W sound system and stage, complete gallery lighting throughout and has handicap access. See all the attached pictures and come visit us. You can contact us at 505-269-2291. The price for the complete facility is $350,000. We can finance the loan with a 30% down payment.

This section of the house can be used as more gallery, a restaurant, professional offices, or you can live in the space.  There are two bathrooms (men's and women's) which were designed as handicap access with the last renovation.  The kitchen was designed as a commercial kitchen during the renovation and can be returned to commercial status.

This is the former parsonage.  It can be used as a home in which to live if you use the main building as a business or you can rent it as we do.  We receive $1200 per month from this unit which can help you pay the mortgage.

The Mission, our home, is an historic, adobe building built in 1927 as a mission church sponsored by the North Carolina Presbyterian’s.  It is built in the Spanish architectural style with a bell tower, on historic Route 66 in Grants, N.M.  An addition to the church was built on adjoining property, which included an existing house, in the 1930’s.  The parsonage, a separate building on the property, was built in the 1940’s.  We added the workshop, greenhouse and garden shed over the last 10 years as we transitioned the from café, coffee house and gallery to our residence and art studio/gallery.

The building is one of the oldest on Santa Fe Ave. (Route 66).  It was awarded the New Mexico Mainstreet “Building of the Year” and the NM Governor’s award for Historic Preservation in 2000 and is eligible for the New Mexico State Historic Register.  The Mission is located across from Riverwalk Park, the great, green heart of the city and is within walking distance of city and county buildings, retail, post office, library, etc.  It has been in constant service to our community since its inception, initially, as the first Protestant church in the area with many locals being married and baptized here, and then as a school, as a physician’s office and as a shelter for the homeless to name only a few.

The property is gated and fenced with a 30 x 30 foot backyard patio and vine covered ramada with 8 round concrete topped tables and 32 matching wrought iron, padded chairs. There are pergolas in the front and rear of the building, with a gated RV parking area with water and sewer. There is an outdoor cooking area with gas barbecue, and a counter with sink and under counter storage.   There is mature landscaping with an automatic 4 zone watering system and apple, plum, olive, elm, and willow trees and flowers abound.  Grass surrounds a three-tiered Mexican fountain. Stone walkways define certain areas.

We bought the building because we wanted a gallery for art          ( and we liked its “bones”.   We stripped it back to its bones (the exterior walls) and started the remodel with new roof, new electrical, new plumbing, 2 evaporative coolers (1 for the mission, 1 for the casita) and new gas hot water heating. The old ceilings were removed to expose original beams throughout, oak floors were refinished, walls restuccoed and two sets of double doors were created from vintage lumber for the front.  Interior doors were retained whenever possible and hand decorated or handmade from vintage lumber.  The original windows were retained. With the exceptions of the kitchen and foyer, there are solid, original oak floors throughout both buildings.

The main house has one large bedroom with ensuite bathroom.  It has an additional bathroom which was used as the other (men's and women's) bathroom when we were a cafe/gallery.  The bedroom has a kitchenette with sink, mini refrigerator, microwave and toaster oven and French doors to the patio. It comfortably accommodates a king-sized bed and a sofa and two wing backed chairs.  It has a walk-in closet with a separate linen closet and an in-floor mop sink.  The ¾ bath is handicapped accessible and equipped.  The master bath has a jet tub and rain shower, double copper sinks and a lighted pot shelf.

The living room/dining room area has a wet bar with slate top and double stainless-steel sinks, upper and lower wood cabinets and an antique chandelier and trac lighting.  There is a large closet for coats and storage.

The kitchen has concrete and butcher-block counter tops, aged wood upper cabinetry, a breakfast bar, French doors to patio, a Bosch 5 burner gas stove, Jennaire electric oven, Subzero stainless steel refrigerator and freezer (all appliances included), saltillo tile floors with floor drain and access to crawl space under house.  Across from the kitchen there are two large closets for washer and drier with shelf and storage space, pot shelves above.

The studio/gallery has a stage with curtain, 400-Watt Peavy 8 channel amplifier, 2 mounted Peavy speakers, coffee bar with commercial Faema Duo two port espresso machine with accessories, commercial coffee grinder, and a water softener for the espresso machine.  We use the studio/gallery as a movie theater frequently.  It features an Eike movie projector which projects to a 10 x 20 ft. screen.  All lights and sound are controlled in a separate control room in the rear of the studio.  There is a large foyer, saltillo tiled, with double doors to the street. You see the bell tower above in this area.

The casita/guest house (parsonage) has one bedroom with a walk-in closet, and built in shelving and a king-sized headboard created from an original door.  The bedroom and living room have ceiling fans. The bathroom has a jet tub and a walk-in tiled shower.  The kitchen has an electric range, microwave oven and a refrigerator.  There is a separate laundry room with washer and drier and access to the private patio in the rear.  There is a ¼ size basement which houses the water heater and gas hot water boiler with storage space. There is a swamp cooler on the roof.  The casita is currently rented for $1200 including utilities.

The greenhouse has a sink, an automatic drip system and a hose bib for watering.  It has counter tops with storage underneath and an A/C.  It has a concrete floor a drain for easy cleanup. There is a little chicken coop on one end—we had 4 chickens!—and a compost pile outside. (FYI the greenhouse was a portable conning tower for the military before its reincarnation here). There is a workshop and a garden shed for the handyman and storage. There are security lights on the Mission and the casita and decorative LED neon lighting in front. There is parking for 8 vehicles on 5th Ave. side of property.
